Today is the birthday of “Die Sendung mit der Maus” (specifically, March 7, 1971). It was a show I never really liked. The cartoons were often too simplistic for my taste. The educational segments usually didn’t interest me; after all, there were books where you could read up on things in much greater depth.
But there wasn’t much else on for children. Anyway, it came on Thursdays at 6 p.m. on the third channel.
Does anyone remember the child’s voice?
“This is North German Broadcasting, Radio Bremen, and Sender Freies Berlin with the third channel.”
And then it started at 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday with “Sesame Street,” Thursday with “Die Sendung mit der Maus,” and on Friday with “Hallo Spencer.”
Incidentally, I only ever saw all three shows in black and white on a small portable TV (just under 30 cm). By the time we got a color TV around 1982 (a Colormat, just under 50 cm, I think), I was already too old for those programs. I happened to see Sesame Street in color once… I had no idea the characters were all so colorful 🙂
